When the COVID-19 pandemic once again caused a travel hiccup in our plans to travel to Germany for the Christmas season 2021, we made a last minute pivot and planned a trip to Iceland instead. We had heard great things about the island, but to be honest, it was not at the top of either of our travel lists. Now, in retrospect, it seems foolish that we hadn’t made Iceland, with its beautiful landscape and tremendously happy Icelanders, more of a top priority! We had more fun than we ever thought possible, and we never even wished that those cancelled plans had come to fruition.
We opened and closed the trip with time in the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik. A thriving yet wonderfully charming city, Reykjavik delivered on the Christmas charm and culinary scene from the beginning. The remainder of our trip was spent in Southern Iceland on what felt like the perfect mix of an adventurous and relaxing wintery getaway. Read all about both parts of our Icelandic trip below!
