Final Morning in Dubrovnik and Returning to the USA

Our final day in Croatia was a lazy one.  We decided to sleep in a bit before dropping our luggage off at our rental property’s office who agreed to store it for a few hours until we were ready to leave the city.  A breakfast restaurant on the crowded Stradun of Old Town was our next stop.  We enjoyed a relaxed (but overpriced) breakfast sitting alongside Dubrovnik’s main street.  Crowds were already starting to pour in, so after breakfast we navigated our way to the second of two Buza Bars for a few drinks with a view.  I took some last photos of the beautiful old town along the way.

After an hour or two it was unfortunately time for us to leave this wonderful place.  Conveniently, there is a shuttle that departs from just outside the city walls to take travelers back to the Dubrovnik airport.  It was a bit difficult to find and required hauling our luggage up quite a few stairs, but we were able to manage.  Once aboard the shuttle bus, we captured one last view of Dubrovnik from above before making our way to the airport for a long journey home.

Our flight from Dubrovnik took us to London Gatwick airport.  Since our flight back to the USA left the next morning and from Heathrow instead of Gatwick, we needed to spend the night in London.  We took the Gatwick Express to London Victoria station, where our hotel for the night was just around the corner.  I chose this station because I knew from past experiences traveling in London that I would be able to navigate the London Underground to get us to Heathrow airport the next morning.  Minus one directional error which took us a few blocks in the wrong direction at night (a bit of a scary moment), we found our hotel and enjoyed one of the best nights of sleep we’d had in several weeks.  Our travel plans to take the Underground to Heathrow worked out well, and before we knew it we were boarding our flight to the USA, connecting in Philadelphia before flying back to St. Louis.  The multiple-leg journey home was tough, but to be able to experience four different countries in two weeks with no major travel hiccups and nothing but amazing travel memories made it completely worth the sacrifice.

Thanks for those of you who have read and traveled along this two week trip with us!  We are already planning some exciting things to come in the future and cannot wait to continue seeing the world and trying new things, the Geiss Way!
